“The ceremony organized by Mr. Tsarukyan, to which the three presidents are invited, is the first clear step toward the bourgeois democratic revolution declared by Levon Ter-Petrossian recently,” Petros Makeyan, the leader of the Democratic Motherland Party, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am, talking about the three presidents who had been invited to the consecration of the newly-built St. John the Baptist Church in the town of Abovyan, Diocese of Kotayk, construction of which had been financed by Gagik Tsarukyan, the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) leader. Let us remind that Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan had confirmed earlier that they would attend, and Levon Ter-Petrossian’s press agency had neither denied nor confirmed. Mr. Makeyan reminded that they had mocked Raffi Hovhannisyan when he had gone to pray, in order to change the dangerous situation. “There is a good saying, why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?
“The developments in Armenia are no good. That same President of Belarus has become the fourth guarantor of the bourgeois democratic revolution by his presence. Being a Socialist, he takes part in having that scenario in Armenia. This is a big scenario that is under way already, as Gorbachev would say. It has begun; today’s ceremony has serious political overtones. It is a model of the three presidents’ future cooperation, which was called ‘bourgeois democratic revolution.’” In response to our question whether today’s event that had joined together the opposition and the government testified to the fact that the opposition was not persecuted by the government any longer, Mr. Makeyan said: “The so-called opposition is multilayer. Geghamyan, Artur Baghdasaryan and a set of others were opposition in the past. Today’s opposition is not a far cry from such opposition. While talking about the opposition, one should clearly say what kind of opposition. Do we mean the kind of opposition that has always cooperated with the government in secret, and that cooperation is revealed at the decisive moments? And the real opposition is in the same condition now. There still are political persecutions.”
