The Suspect in Luxe Stepanyan’s Murder Burst Into Tears, a Human Rights Advocate Speaks of the Details of the Meeting

May 21,2013 13:23

Yeranuhi Tumanyants, an adviser to the Human Rights Defender and an expert in servicemen’s affairs, visited Davit Khachatryan alleged to have killed Luxe Stepanyan who served at the Noyemberyan military base on Friday. “We talked with him, he assured that the preliminary investigation body hadn’t tortured him. We checked his documents to find out how he had been arrested, based on what decision. All of that was completely in line with the legislation of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, we made an arrangement with NGOs to have Davit provided with another attorney, not the public defender that was present at the investigation.

“Davit was disconcerted, uneasy, didn’t remember how it had happened, how he had shot. At the same time, he admitted that he hadn’t realized how he had shot, that the one who had been killed and the one who had been injured were his close friends with whom he had been

conscripted. He even burst into tears; he was in a hard psychological condition,” Yeranuhi Tumanyants said to www.aravot.am. In her words, Davit ensured that there had been a quarrel before the incident. “He was so agitated that every time he would remember, he would start to cry. So we didn’t focus on that too much, but he also confirmed that the shot had been fired as a result of the quarrel.”
