“Today’s significance is overwhelming. Together we can achieve success, and every one of us should feel great responsibility for his work and his obligations,” Seyran Ohanyan, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, said during a press briefing after the Republic Day parade in Sardarapat. “The May victories are quite significant events in our history. Those are heroic acts, which gave spiritual strength to our people to struggle, achieve success and win in our future undertakings,” the minister said, stressing that during the May battles, the Armenian people had demonstrated courage, which proved once again that today we would struggle for our country’s security together, if our country was subjected to aggression, our people’s freedom was under threat. Journalists inquired whether the armed forces of the Republic of Armenia were ready to resist the enemy these days. The minister said: “We don’t attach too much importance to the quantity; we attach importance to the quality, to harmonization of every soldier with every unit. And also to morale. Besides, the international organizations can evaluate the armed forces. The armed forces are ready for war every day; we don’t want war, but if there is war, we will fight for our fatherland honorably and selflessly.”

Talking about Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s statement that the current status quo was not in any party’s interests, Seyran Ohanyan stated that the process, in which the leadership of the Republic of Armenia was engaged, was the right one. “All of us are for it, and this whole process, in which the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs participate, has ensured peace for many years, after all. I think that the conflicting parties haven’t put all their effort yet and try to take a constructive approach, in order that this issue is solved peacefully.”
