“Turkey Doesn’t Want to Impede the Peaceful Settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict,” the Head of the Turkish Delegation to the PACE Says

May 31,2013 12:56

Nursuna Memecan, the head of the Turkish delegation, was among delegates from 47 countries who participated in the PACE Standing Committee meeting, which was held within the framework of Armenia’s presidency in the Committee of Ministers, in Yerevan today. Let us note that the Azeri delegates haven’t come to the Republic of Armenia to participate in the meeting of the Standing Committee. During a conversation with N. Memecan, www.aravot.am raised an issue that Turkish delegates always took non-neutral position during discussions on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, defending the Azeri side’s opinion, as a result of which Turkey was blamed for impeding the peaceful settlement of the conflict. With regard to this, N. Memecan said during a conversation with us: “Turkey doesn’t want to impede the peaceful settlement of the conflict. On the contrary, Turkey is for the peaceful settlement of the conflict. Turkey often tries to

take a neutral position on the conflict; we try to establish good relations with Armenia and want peace and stability for Armenia. It is important for us to have peace and stability in the region, as it is for the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Therefore, we will contribute to the peaceful settlement of the conflict as much as we can – whatever the context. If we can contribute to the peaceful settlement, we will do that.”
