Poll among well-known artists

Since 1981 the professor of the Netherlands Erazmo Roterdamski University Ruth Veenhoven based on the result of annual polling publishes the list of countries of happy and not happy citizens. Each year, inquiries are conducted in some 100 countries. Respondents are asked 10 questions with the help of which they assess their mood at the moment, the state of being satisfied with life in general, and subjective level of happiness in a 10 score scale. In the result of various polling, the horizontal level of “happy” and “not happy” countries is significantly changing, as documented by Ruth Veenhovene, what is called happiness, is relative.

Summarizing the findings of more than 30 years, the professor made the most important conclusion: in the modern world, the amount for happiness does not have a decisive role. For example, in the result of polling of 2008, the United States of America occupied the 16th position in the list of “happiness”, following after Guatemala and Uruguay. That year, the list of “not happy” countries was headed by the Ukrainians.

Recent polls showed that Denmark is considered to be a “happy” country, where 90% of respondents considered themselves to be happy, and 53% of Armenians are happy.

“Aravot” tried to conduct similar small poll among some well-known artists. The playwriter Karine Khodikyan said,- “Let Mr. Veenhoven excuse me, but I would replace the word happy with the word self-sufficient. I can not be happy for the simple reason that there are beggars in our country, and the emigration is increasing… But actually I’m happy with my family, relatives, friends and others.”

The actor and producer Michael Poghosyan conveyed that he is happy that he is in Armenia and is surrounded by people whom he has chosen. “I am also happy that I have the opportunity to more or less be busy with my favorite work.”

The staging director Armen Meliksetyan said,- “Happiness is generated from similar instant situations. For example, if you can realize your talent and can understand that you are needed by the society and the country, then you will consider yourself happy. Otherwise,

your happiness will not be complete, even if you are happy in your own family. In short, for complete happiness you need thousand of factors.”

The opera singer Barsegh Tumanyan is sure that you must consider yourself happy, first for a fact that you were born and you are originally given a divine intelligence. “It’s another issue what each person thinks by saying happiness and how it builds its own live. Here, it is important that everyone is not engaged in self-deception, and does not blame others for its misfortune.”

The poet Artem Harutyunyan said,- “Generally I’m happy, at least for the part that I have a creative vision and I am able to present my ideas to the world. The phenomenon of human life is complex: social issues, intellectual atmosphere where you, one way or another, often unwittingly get into it…. I do not think that there will be a man that will immediately shout – I’m happy.”

The answer of the conductor Karen Durgaryan was brief,- “I am happy, otherwise, I would not live and create here even though Armenia is my country.”

The violinist Edward Tadevoyan finds that a person can not be completely happy. “In fact, it consists of several factors – material, physical, occupational, psychological, and so on. This complex can not be complete to every person.”

The artist Shota Voskanyan said,- “Phew, phew, phew, I am happy, I have a wonderful family, I am busy with my favorite profession, which enable to provide my family. But when I look around and see that the condition of a considerable part of my nation is poor, I can not consider myself completely happy. ”

The actor Tiran Nersissyan believes that happiness is not eternal. “In the package of my happiness are my parents, my family and homeland, where I live and am busy with my favorite work. Happiness should be fixed and perceived, which we often do not do. ”

The composer Aram Satyan said that a man can be satisfied with little, and to feel happy. “There are al lot of problems, but it turns out that I am happy and I thank God on every opening morning.”
