A few days ago, the head of RA NA ANC faction Levon Zurabyan and the Chairman of the ANC Foreign Relations Committee Vladimir Karapetyan met with Commissioner for EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Füle. After the meeting L. Zurabyan announced,- “In general, of course, there was a serious dispute, and we did not agree on every issue. And there were pretty hard dispute episodes made.” Aravot.am inquired from V. Karapetyan as to particularly what “hard” questions are discussed. Mr. Karapetyan replied,- “We conveyed our reservations that the EU is not united on all issues. We listened to the Commissioner’s position on these issues. We raised the issue of availability of political prisoners that the cases of Tigran Arakelyan and our young people are artificial delayed, and there is no response by the EU, or the calls to change the Election Code, which were raised before the election, while there was no response to these issues after the election. Hence, there are some reservations, about which we openly speak with our partners.” We wondered as to what is the reason for such behavior of the European officials, V. Karapetyan answered,- “They want very much the Armenia signs the Association Agreement, and go for some concessions, come to meet the government.” To our next question as to why the text of the agreement is kept confidential, Mr. Karapetyan responded as follows,- “Whilst they are negotiating, it is normal, I do not see any problem in this matter.”
