Aren’t other officials of RA Foreign Ministry aware of Attorney General’s statements

July 17,2013 10:26

“I think they were not the right statements to be made by RA Prosecutor General. The Prosecutor General is an official person and has its own powers, which, if I’m not mistaken, does not include foreign policy”,- said the President of the Helsinki Committee Avetik Ishkhanyan to the question of Aravot.am as to how you refer to the demanding statements of the Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan made recently against Turkey. Mr. Ishkhanyan believe that the statements coming out from the mouth of high-ranking official, RA Prosecutor General may give rise to serious assessments in the international arena and create the impression that the demanding constitutes a part of Armenia’s foreign policy. “If indeed that is the case, then it should be said by the President of Armenia. Now, I do not want to refer to its good or bad sides. I would like the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia to answer the question whether they agree with the statement by the Prosecutor General, or not, because it can become a serious international scandal,”- said Mr. Ishkhanyan.

Why the Prosecutor General decided to make such a statement, according to our interlocutor, the reason is as follows. “After the fiasco of protocols, RA authorities fell from one extreme to the other. Curtseys to Turkey, under the circumstances of availability of prerequisites, and a fiasco. But there was no courage to say something to the face. It looks like they are now trying to threaten Turkey. Neither the first, nor the second is right.” This situation is not clear for Avetik Ishkanyan in the sense that the authorities of Armenia have set a goal to improve its relations with Turkey without prerequisites, while slowly-slowly they are passing to the language of prerequisites, which contradicts the very principles of the government. Yesterday, Aravot.am tried to get the comments of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan regarding the statements made by the Prosecutor General. Also, to learn why until now the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia did not respond to the statement of Prosecutor General. To remind you that Turkish MFA responded. Mr. Mnatsakanyan, however, was not aware of Aghvan Hovsepyan’s statement and refrained from saying anything.
