Developing tourism with road fees?

July 23,2013 12:03

This gives rise to dissatisfaction. People arriving from Russia and other countries by their cars complained to us that they are forced to pay road fee on entering Armenia, about 22 thousand drams. They said that there is no such a fee while crossing the border of other countries. When the term of being in Armenia is expired by this payment, and the person visiting Armenia, for some reasons, had to stay longer in the country, he is forced to go back by his car to the checkpoint and make additional contribution for the road fee. Our compatriots living abroad and foreign guests complain that the Government of Armenia therewith does not promote tourism industry declared as a priority of economy. In regard with this issue, we called Karen Grigoryan, the head of Bagratashen Checkpoint of Gugark regional Customs. He said that the road fee is different depending on the model of the cars entering Armenia, on the terms of their stay in Armenia. According to the chief of the Customs checkpoint it is defined by the Government decree, which is posted on the wall of the checkpoint. He advised to refer to the Customs Information of the Customs Service for the rest of the questions.
