The “adventure” is in deepening the RA dependence on Moscow, speculating for the NKR “security”

September 11,2013 15:52

Isn’t the humiliation of the RA citizens by Moscow concerning?

On September 7, at the ANC board meeting, Levon Ter-Petrosyan regarding Serzh Sargsyan’s statement of joining the Customs Union, in one formulation, showed the authorities the vision of “alternative” power about the future of Armenia, when he mentioned, “… in case of integration with Europe, or in the case of entering into the games with Europe, Serzh should have realized the threat to Karabakh not now, but before commencing his political adventure.”

This, of course, cannot be considered a sudden position by the first president because since 2008 Ter-Petrosyan was making a very clear stance against the West, and was introducing Serzh Sargsyan as a President turning his back to the RF and throwing into the arms of the West. In 2008, on October 17 rally, he said. “Turning his back to the RF and totally confiding to the West, in the face of the U.S. and its ally Turkey, Serzh Sargsyan actually is entrusting the settlement of the most crucial issue of the foreign policy, unilateral solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the latter. Such a conclusion is drawn by the fact that the West, obviously, is trying to oust the RF from Karabakh conflict settlement process. …. Does Serzh Sargsyan realize that the danger of throwing into the arms of the West and attributing the monopoly to him to solve the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, which ultimately could lead to a national disaster? Indubitable, no…” It is not also strange that Ter-Petrosyan did not talk of the facts regarding raising gas prices by Moscow, selling of attack weapons to Azerbaijan worth of four billion dollars, which is a direct threat to “security” of NKR and Armenia, while he preferred to instruct not to say any bad word against Putin. The main message of his speech was as follows: the ANC could make Armenia become a member of the Customs Union with more dignity than it was done by Serzh Sargsyan. Ter-Petrosyan speaks of the the authorities being “beaten”, “broken”, and “humiliated”, and who will dare to speak about the humiliated RA citizen. The addressee of Moscow’s pressure is the RA citizen, and the rest are political calculations.

How many times Armenia should be included in the still-born Russian projects?

Armenia is a member of the CIS, CSTO member, the Russian military base is located in Gyumri, in the territory of Armenia. As a result of Robert Kocharyan’s “balanced” foreign policy, strategic objects were handed to Russia within the framework of “property for debt” transaction. Just a logical question arises, doesn’t Armenia have the right to connect its economic future with the EU? Is it forever doomed to stay RF’s adjunct? … Are the RA citizens doomed to have Presidents, who consider Russia to be Armenia’s permanent guardian? Finally, how many times Armenia has to prove its loyalty to the Kremlin, to be included in still-born, non-argumentative viability of Russian projects.

Isn’t the provision of this “security” possible in the situation of the CIS, the CSTO, the Russian military base in Gyumri? And, besides, even if they consider to be “alternative” political forces to the power, that still representing nothing of itself the Customs Union will be providing the “security” of Nagorno-Karabakh, let them be good to demand from the RF authorities, for example, to recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Or, if RF is providing the “Security” of Karabakh, in general,

why do we continue the negotiations with the OSCE Minsk Group format, to which Russia is also a member…

It is sad that the first president of Armenia clearly knows about the position of RF authorities on the Karabakh issue. All OSCE MG Russian co-chairmen, on various occasions, have stated that they defend the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, so now as denounced are the justifications of the authorities, that allegedly there is an issue of Karabakh “security”, so the position of the “alternative” power to the authorities deserves the same criticism, which by its content, actually, does not different from Serzh Sargsyan’s Moscow decision.

With no intention to justify Serzh Sargsyan’s position with regard to negotiating around the EU Association Agreement in Brussels for four years, working in two Agreements, and then, in one day, under the pressure of Putin to decided on another decision, however, it should be noted that Serzh Sargsyan, at least, has tried to make a step towards the integration with the EU, a move that actually Ter-Petrosyan first would not do because he considered it as an “adventure”, and if he had tried, he should have first waited for the Kremlin “approval”, and it is clear that in this situation the answer of Moscow would be “no”.

Today, even in the situation of Moscow surprise delivered by today’s authorities, the display of revolt by some segments of the society in Armenia is a proof that Moscow should not impose decisions to RA citizens, whether it is made by the hands of authorities, or by the internal pressures and lectures of “alternative” authorities on how to do so not to return from Moscow ‘humiliated’, but to stuck into unviable Russian project with more dignity.
