September 12,2013 15:39

On 9 September the EU Twinning Project on Strengthening the Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights in Armenia held its 7th regular quarterly steering committee meeting.
The Twinning Project aims at assisting Armenia in its effort to strengthen the enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights such as Copyright, Trademarks and Patents. The main partners are the relevant units dealing with IPR crimes and infringements in RA Police, RA Customs, the Judiciall Department, General Prosecutors Office and the Intellectual Property Agency. The institutions cooperate with European counterparts in reforming the legislation and introducing international and EU best practices on how to effectively combat IPR crimes.

During the meeting the Resident Twinning Adviser Ms. Janne Wellendorf presented to the SC members’ approval the work plan for the next quarter, as well as a number of activities that the Twinning Project is organizing beyond the scope of its activities, such as a seminar on Copyright and Related Rights for the students of the Slavonic University in Armenia. She stressed the importance of the Project’s last phase which is to raise public awareness on IPR. “Different organizations and institutions are carrying out various activities aimed at raising the public awareness and the coordination of such activities will be the key to their success”.

The Project is expected to complete its activities by the end of June 2014.
