Aharon Adibekyan. “After joining the Customs Union, rearming Azerbaijan by the RF should not disturb us.”

September 17,2013 21:46

The Russian plant has commenced the production of “Vena” self-propelled artillery systems by the order of Azerbaijan, and it is designed to sent 18 units to Azerbaijan. This news has been put into circulating by Russian media, saying that “Vena” is designed to pierce the living force of the enemy, artillery and mortar batteries, missile equipment, armored targets up to 13 km distance, it can independently control the fire, reconnoitre the target during the daytimes and at nights, precise shooting without prior preparation to fire position.

To the observation of Aravot.am that after the sale of “Smerch”, it seems, this is Russia’s second strike, whether this is a warning to the fact not to refuse from the Customs Union, since some political figures say that we still have time to reject, the sociologist Aharon Adibekyan replied,- “They argument the sales of the arms with the fact that if we did not sell, it does not mean that Azerbaijan will not buy weapons from others. It would be better if it buys from us, because, thus, we will have lever to influence on it. And since some of the weapons become outdated from time to time, spare parts are required, to this respect Azerbaijan becomes dependent from Russia, and Russia is having the opportunity to control to some extent, or at least to have the opportunity to control over the process of arming the Azerbaijan, therefore we should not pay that much attention to this circumstance. Azerbaijan buys weapons not only from Russia, but also Turkey, China, Ukraine, and at large, and it is interesting that we do not get offended from Ukrainians, though they are always talking about our age-old friendship, and we are offended from Russians. We need to stay calm, and if necessary, to buy the same weapons, the same amount, and Russia will sell it to us with great pleasure. There is only one thing sad, here: the principle of great empires is the following: divide and dominate. By dividing, arming us and them, Russia, in fact, dominates the region. Therefore, we need to build our game according to these rules.

Our strategic partner that has the largest military bases, pillars in Armenia, we also have levers to influence on him. And here the Customs Union and military-political processes are a little bit far from each other, because we have already signed the existence of military supports in Armenia with Russia for 40 years, and we cannot be in more military dependence than that, it is pretty much dependence, and the Russians say ‘you stay quiet, you will not be attacked, we will protect you, but it does not refer to Azerbaijan’s aggressive encroachments over Karabakh.’ We should be able to solve this problem on our own, and calls that Obama and Putin are making that the issue should be resolved peacefully, it will become a reality.”
