Almost 3 weeks have been passed since September 3, and we can clearly record that no one from Armenia’s main political forces had clearly and unequivocally stated against our country’s joining the Customs Union. If we set the rhetoric and insults aside, the opposition says that joining CU is right, but it should be done not in the way as Serzh Sargsyan did it. Should we do it, we would have done it in more beautiful and dignified way, because we are more intelligent, honest, and legitimate. It is very likely. But these are tactical differences.
There is also one “cunning” trick to avoid expressing the position: we still are not familiar with CU’s documents, well, when we get to know them, we will tell our men’s word. Those who say so, naturally, are not naive people, and know very well that, first, such documents do not exist, and second, that it is purely a political project, and Armenia, however, does not show interest to anyone as an economic partner, and as a market.
Why don’t the main political forces, in fact, dispute the current foreign policy of Armenia? Their explanation is that they are pro-state, they do not want to spoil relations with the strategic partner and security guarantor. But they are not authorities, and if, let’s say, Raffi Hovannisian says that we do have anything to do with the Customs Union, Putin particularly will not take offense and as a result it will not give Karabakh to Azerbaijan. The problem, therefore, is not in pro-state.
It’s just that the political forces that have pretension to come to power, know that they need to ask for the power from the Kremlin. The same for Raffi, if you remember, after the elections he went to Moscow and “was bringing the victory of Armenian people from Putin”. If our political figures say something against “Eurasian”, then the issue will not reach Putin, but, for example, Kolerov or Krivopuskov would say,- “Dear, wasn’t it you saying more or less things against us. Well, then you have no chances to reign in Armenia.” So, it turns out that only individuals and some of public institutions speak against the Customs Union, but no one wants to listen to their arguments.

Instead, in addition to security, etc. the following argument is brought, the European Union is not interested to see Armenia developed. This claim by itself is 100% true. But, not as much are interested Russia, the U.S., China and other countries around the world, as well as international organizations. We are only interested in our development.
