“Liberty” radio station reported that the European Parliament of 23 October meeting voted in favor of strengthening relations with Eastern Neighborhood Countries, as well as registered progress and failures as the resolution changes. There is also a clear indication in the resolution regarding the conflicts available in the Eastern Neighborhood Area, which, according to the European Parliament, must be addressed based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and the right of nations to self-determination. In particular, it is said that the European Union should be more actively involved in resolving conflicts peacefully. The text contains the following notion that the solution of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict must comply with the Four UN Security Council Resolutions adopted in 1993 and the OSCE Minsk Group fundamental principles enshrined in 2009 by L’Aquila joint statement. UN resolutions are not acceptable to the Armenian side due to the fact that it also contained return of a part of the liberated territories.
‘Aravot’ inquired from experts of Armenia with European orientation on how they assess this resolution. Country Director of Eurasia Partnership Foundation Gevorg Ter-Gabrielyan said that still on Sept. 5-6 he had predicted that after Serzh Sargsyan’s statement to enter into the Customs Union, a tougher stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would stem from the European Union. “Which is done at the moment, earlier it happened by some countries.”

Program Coordinator of the Yerevan Press Club, Haykak Arshamyan first said that he does not consider himself an expert on Karabakh issues, but also added, “As I understand, the Europeans are trying to exert some leverage, but their statement does not contradict the Madrid principles, nor their current policy and orientation. All of these should be considered in the context of the action made by Serzh Sargsyan, yesterday, focused on further deepening of Eurasian integration.”
