It was the vision of the country development that put Georgia on the right path
On Sunday, ten years tenure of the leader of “Rose Revolution”, Mikheil Saakashvili, came to an end. Mikheil Saakashvili accepted the defeat of his headed United National Movement candidate David Bakradze, the latter congratulated his opponent Georgi Margvelashvili nominated by “Georgian Dream” and wining a convincing victory at the elections.
OSCE, the State Department, and NATO have congratulated the Georgian society for holding “transparent and peaceful presidential elections”. The elections were positively responded by the official Moscow, by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, “Judging from received information, the elections were free and fair, no one disputes the results, and on the occasion of the elections we congratulate Georgian people.”
The 44 -year-old Margvelashvili, speaking about the elections, noted that they demonstrated the world that they are a free nation that can freely elect their leadership. Margvelashvili stressed that during the new president there will be no political prosecutions. “The political persecutions are contrary to the concept and principles of contemporary European countries, and there will be no such a thing in Georgia. Legal state is exactly what the U.S. and Europe are built on. It is the foundation of the statehood of Georgia.”

The elections held in the neighboring country, Georgia, are another opportunity for thinking about of political and social atmosphere available in Georgia, and abut a very high level. The ten-year tenure of Saakashvili, of course, was controversial for many.
Emotional Misha, probably, did not have restraint and coolness typical to the state official, but he had charisma and, most importantly, a will with regard to the vision of country’s development. It was this vision that put the neighboring country, Georgia, on the right path. Many, perhaps, would oppose, and what about the five-day war on August 2008, and “loss of territories”?…
Georgia, certainly, has had difficult days, but, on the formation of demanding and progressive social consciousness, Misha’s management epoch surely had its influence. A large part of Georgian society was disappointed from Misha, it was striving to changes, and it had the chance to prescribe the change on October of last year, when Bidzina Ivanishvili’s “Georgian Dream” has won the elections.
Georgia is already on the level where the reforms, even the formed in the result of elections and the appearance of new personalities, do not change the main path of country’s development. Georgian society has steadily caught the path of establishing a European universal value system, it passes by this path, and, fortunately, the new political figures consider this objective.
And this is the very reason that the authorities of Georgia feel where the danger may come from to restrain Georgia from the path, to divert it. In the interview with Die Welt, the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili, recently, spoke about the relations with Russia, pointing, “What happens to the so-called South Ossetia and Abkhazia border, the questions are open. I still cherish a hope of solving the problem diplomatically. Whatever happens on the border, is already a pressure (associated with Georgia’s Euro integration). However, we will not allow it to stop us. Russia has never officially opposed itself to the EU, but his actions clearly show such a behavior. I can not understand why RF is against Europe. Rapprochement with EU and NATO is our strategy. We will never change it.”
Presidential elections held in Georgia officially put an end to Misha’s era. However, Saakashvili assures that these elections are not the end of his political career. On Monday, leaving Misha addressed to the Georgian society, “Ten years ago I offered you to make a journey to the future, but I did not promise you that we should reach the point of our final destination by all means. It was an interesting journey, and this future has come today, and it is all yours and you are in charge of our common journey, a journey that did not and that cannot be stopped…. We have passed very important steps on this journey and you have to go on looking forward rather than backward… I will always stand by you on this amazing journey towards our progress.”
With respect to the future of the country, Saakashvili’s following words were extremely important, “We need peace. But, the absence of war does not necessarily mean presence of peace. Peace cannot be exchanged on the slavery to the conqueror and peace cannot be bought on the expense of independence. Please, don’t allow anybody to sacrifice our sovereignty, don’t allow the spies to come back, don’t give up ever on NATO and EU,” said Saakashvili.
Misha came beautifully and left beautifully… During his absence, the leadership of the country will have the will to solve various social and economic problems. However, sacrificing country’s sovereignty is the problem, in which at the absence of Misha, if Georgian political elite is slightly stumbles, the consequences, really, may be fatal for our neighboring country towards development.
