“If the negotiations reach a point that Armenia could sign a normal document over there with honor, it is clear that the president has to go there, otherwise Armenia would have been presented in a lower level. Perhaps, so far, the Armenian side has managed to negotiate a document, which, according to me, the president views it as a normal idea and a document for him to restore Armenia-Europe relationship for future, and for this reason he is there”, – said the secretary of the “Heritage” party Tevan Poghosyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, speaking referring to expectations from the Vilnius summit. Recall that the third Eastern Partnership Summit was launched today in Vilnius. The main events will be developed and reached denouement tomorrow. The Armenian delegation to the summit will be headed by President Serzh Sargsyan. From the moment when on September 3, President Sargsyan stated in Moscow about Armenia’s accession to the CU, it became clear that the agreements on establishment of the EU Association Agreement, and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, which were to be signed at this summit will not take place. There were also media reports that Armenia-EU is conducting negotiations in secret about the documents to be signed in the Vilnius Summit. Drawing parallels between expectations and anticipations of the countries participating in the summit, Tevan Poghosyan draws attention to the fact that Azerbaijan has already declared about its plans of signing a visa facilitation document in Vilnius, Belarus will participate at a lower representative level, Georgia and Moldova will attend at the highest levels. In the case of Ukraine, which by the way, unlike Armenia, was to initialing the said documents, had also declared that the delegation will be headed by President Viktor Yanukovych. It means that new mechanisms and recommendations will be developed for Ukraine, as well. To the point, along with Vilnius summit, the Eurasian summit will also proceed meantime. In response to our question whether it is a challenge of the Customs Union to the EU, Tevan Poghosyan said that the integration processes have been accelerated in the world, and many things are planned to complete by the end of the year for the convenience and freedom of the people. As for the Eurasian Forum, in the opinion of our interlocutor, any action somehow have to be answered. “This time they happen to be on the same day, but if, let’s say, they were a week later, it does not mean that there would be no answer.”
