There are many grounds to trust the authorities of Armenia. Not going too far, just to note that the citizens of Armenia were still not explained why the “real” gas price was kept secret from us, why our state was always running into a huge amount of debt to Russia, and finally, why the gas obtained at the border by USD 189 is sold to us by USD 400. People, eventually, will accept any explanation, if it, at least, somewhat, fits into the rules of formal logic. Anyway, the officials give such explanations in interviews and from the Parliament, which they do not understand either. Even today, I am sure, they will present their signed “gas agreement of the century” in a way that everyone would immediately realize that we are again cheated.
The most impressive in this “agreement of the century”, of course, is the date, the year 2043. In other words, in 30 years, this humiliating agreement concluded with Russian “Gazprom” can no way be changed by any authorities of Armenia. And, again, the representatives of the government would not be honest with us, and would not say when they have started all these stories associated with the gas, and what the sequence of steps led to this situation, when for receiving poor quality and expensive gas we have to basically hand over our entire energy system to Russia. To put it mildly, the reason for the lack of sincerity, it seems to me, is that there is a serious criminal here since about the year 2000. We are dealing with a chain of illegal, secret, shady deals, where the last link is this “gas agreement”. The problem, I am sure, is with this criminal, not with Russia or “Gazprom”.
There is no doubt that the Parliament would ratify the “agreement of the century”, and Galust Sahakyan would explain that the agreement fully fits the “functions” bequeathed by Garegin Nzhdeh. Such deal should have raised a storm of protest, including in Armenia, if not a “subtle” circumstance. No matter our authorities are responsible for the created situation, it is impossible to complain, criticize, and speak about these matters without saying that it’s true, it is our fault, but just Russia is grasping a significant part of our sovereignty. However, the majority of our political forces is disinclined to say such thing, being afraid that “there”, in Moscow, it would be perceived as a “anti-Russian”. Whereas, no one wants to earn this label due to known reasons.
In short, there is also a certain lack of sincerity in our opposition. But, the hope, of course, dies the last. There is a possibility that the situation will change after the year 2043. Let’s be patient.
