Under sensational headline

December 26,2013 16:32

If a person who is unaware of anything reads the news headlines, he will be definitely terrified. For example, approximately as follows: “Davutoğlu had come to take two regions of Karabakh.” Naturally, this man would shout, “Lord God. What regions? Who gives him? When did they agree upon?” A person who is more or less familiar with the the media world, of course, will understand what is the matter about. In Turkey (probably, by the “pass” of the authorities), rumors are spread that allegedly they will open the border, if we give 2 regions to Azerbaijan. This absurd news was introduced to the parliament debate, but we also have our interests in spreading it, and since the foreign affairs minister of the neighboring country was to visit Yerevan, a “sensational” headline turned out: I have not read the very material, I do not have time. In fact, I’m sure that in the next one and a half years Turkey will provide a lot like bait. I do not know, maybe “the Zurich process” initiators believe or pretend to believe in this “progress”.

Or, “In the conversation with such-and-such diplomat, Ter-Petrosyan said such-and-such thing.” First, where did you get it? Did the first president tell it to you? Or, the diplomat? Or, you had installed a “bug”? A person who is at least a little bit familiar with Ter-Petrosyan would understand that he could not have said such a thing, and it’s a government campaign. Anyway, after all, analysis are based on this lie, so to speak, assumption of why the first president has said such thing and what he meant.

Now, the new “sensation”: “Kazakhstan prevents Armenia to join the Customs Union by bringing forward Nagorno-Karabakh preconditions.” And, then, various improvisations based on this “reliable information”. To check such rumors, it’s worth to apply to some competent official, who in the case is the member of Board, Minister for the EEC Integration and Macroeconomy, Tatiana Valovaya (Customs Union “Stefan Füle”). “As you know, the president of Kazakhstan in his opening speech spoke about Armenia’s preparedness to join the CU and Common Economic Space and mentioned Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As a result of debates, president of Kazakhstan together with other participants of Supreme Economic Council signed a decision approving the roadmap. No other documents have been received from Kazakhstan,” Valovaya said in an interview.

I would like to emphasize that CU and Common Economic Space are economic structures. We have no plans to create a political union, accordingly, Armenia’s accession to Customs Union and CES will not in any way affect the Karabakh peace process (according to news.am). In other words, Nazarbayev, probably, is really going to sign the document with reservation, but for some reasons he did not bring it to the end.

God knows, of course, what will turn out from this Customs Union. One thing is clear. Karabakh issue is not discussed in the framework of our membership. And, this, I think, means that no one makes a claim for the Customs House at Armenia-Artsakh border. The entire “custom” process, by itself, is causing numerous concerns. At least this one does not become true.
