Moral and intellectual degradation and Robert Kocharyan’s return

January 08,2014 18:25

“It depends on how deep this moral and intellectual degradation process will proceed”, so responded Ruben Mehrabyan, expert of the “Armenian Center for Political and International Studies”, in the conversation with Aravot.am, commenting on Robert Kocharyan-Tigran Sargsyan public debate and answering our question of whether this debate can be viewed as a sign of Robert Kocharyan’s possible return. Continuing the idea, the expert also noted that he hopes that citizens will not allow it.

To remind that in an interview published on New Year’s Eve, the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, strongly criticized Tigran Sargsyan, to which the Prime Minister replied:

Mr. Mehrabyan is still unaware whether this debate is the beginning of the attack, or Robert Kocharyan has just voiced estimation. On this occasion, he said, “Voiced words are not only aimed at familiarizing the public with thoughts and intentions, but also at concealing the true thoughts and intentions.”

To our question that there are opinions that Robert Kocharyan’s “benchmark” has fallen down to the level of the Prime Minister, therefore, followed by this interview, the second president submitted an application, Mr. Mehrabyan responded as follows, “It will be wrong to rule something out here.”

We were interested to know whether the ranges of reasonability were maintained in the debate, Mr. Mehrabyan replied, “Estimation was voiced that we deal with the intellectual and moral degradation. However, we are dealing with this degradation since the times when Robert Kocharyan became the President of Armenia, and it continues until today, when it is voiced that one does not need brains to be involved in politics when going to the Customs Union. These are salient examples of moral and intellectual degradation. This degradation is spoken by people from whom it all started. This speaks about the lack of any element of self-criticism.”

Political analyst Hrant Melik Shahnazaryan is expecting for the interview to be continued to answer the question whether Robert Kocharyan has selected the post of the Prime Minister as a target, or it was presented to the public as just. As for the pretensions to the post of the Prime Minister, he said, “I do not think that the prime minister’s position is a low level for a person who does not hold a public office. I think there can not be a matter of level here.”

Hrant Melik Shahnazaryan believes that thus the political arena is getting ready for future elections, and the Prime Minister “took the blow on himself.”

Political analyst prefers to remain silent about Robert Kocharyan’s possible return, and reasons that “Robert Kocharyan has not made any statement about it and does not see such desire in his comments.”
