“You do have no bread, eat pies”, this phrase is attributed to Queen Marie Antoinette of France, who, by the way, was later executed by the revolutionaries. Although historians claim that one of the revolutionaries’ ideologists, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who put this phrase into circulation, has actually invented it, and the Queen could not have said such a thing purely in chronological terms, however, the phrase is very precise and characterizes the cynicism of all times and the authorities of all countries.
I, recently, wrote about the purposes of this cynicism. I repeat, probably, there is a problem with offending people, demonstrating own “advantages and privileges”. In our situation, however, it is true. Ordinary citizens got a shock seeing their utility bills, the vast majority of them are hardly make two ends meet in winter months. The journalist is asking to comment on the situation of the authorities. What should, in my opinion, say the authorities? Nearly the following, “I’m terribly sorry. Really, due to unfavorable condition and our shortcomings, the financial condition of Armenians has deteriorated. The positive is that gas prices will not rise in coming years, and meanwhile we will act in a way that people receive a salary, which will be enough to be able to provide their bread and utility expenses in winter months. We will also try to find other sources of energy. In the meantime, we wish you endurance, and ask for forgiveness.”
False or true, right or wrong, it would be an approach a bit like human attitude, in my perception. But, the head of parliamentarian majority, Galust Sahakyan, avoids the kind of tonality and does it intentionally (unlike many, I do not doubt of his mental abilities). He says, save money to pay, borrow from your neighbors. And, as long as it is not a slip of the tongue rather than consciously chosen path, then it follows some purpose. What purpose? To deepen the hatred among the people? To contribute to the revolution? In this case, the radical oppositions, represented by Galust Sahakyan, have their loyal agent. It is possible to further chill, and despair people. I do not know how much this calculation is correct. However, it is not excluded that such leaders have totally lost the connection with the reality, and truly believe that they are working fine, and the citizens have reasons to resent.
… The word “forgiveness” is perhaps the most difficult to pronounce. “Sorry seems to be the hardest word”, – says the famous singer. But, since the singer is of non-traditional orientation, his song “is not the grounds.”
