Why can’t the opposition of Armenia be united? (Video)

January 22,2014 17:41

“It contains the same danger as in Ukraine, according to which, representatives of civil society organizations can take the initiative into their own hands”,- such opinion was expressed by Sergey Minasyan, Deputy Director of Caucasus Institute, to the question of Aravot.am of whether coalition of opposition around pension and gas issues is possible. Continuing, he justified, “We have political forces of four different moral and personal problems that are trying to unite around a notion, which stems more from civil society and socio-economic problems rather than a move of political significance. And, perhaps, there would be not a coalition of these forces but more active actions in civil society sector, which is not normally governed by the same organizations. They tried to lead this civilian uprising, but this does not exclude the possibility that they will not succeed, but just the opposite.” Mr. Minasyan compares this situation similar to the situation created in Ukraine, and details, “The civil structures have more radical perception and approaches than the representatives of political opposition. We saw before the elections how these political forces took time out and weakened their own political forces, first, the PAP. Hence, whether these weakened forces, even if they cooperate and unite, will be able to manage this wave, or not, is a big question for me.”
