Khosrov Harutyunyan, RPA MP, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the Armenian-Russian friendship parliamentary club established in the National Assembly, the first session of which was attended by him along with other MPs, and answering our question of what this club is giving to us, said, “At least the initial intention of the club’s formation, is the following that we should try to create a platform where free brainstorming discussions and ideas could be held regarding the Armenian-Russian relations, and not only. This might become an easy and most importantly non-binding format for the representatives of the two sides at different level, and as to what the two sides will get from this recital, what they will take with them, it is the second side of the question. In addition, this might also become a tool of making the issues of public interest subject for discussion, and as to what it will turn into in the future, time will say.”
To our observation of whether there was a need for the club now, Khosrov Harutyunyan responded, “Saying in Russian, «маслом кашу не испортишь» (Butter will not spoil the porridge). In other words, such contacts are never extra. For example, there are mid-parliamentary committees, friendly working groups, and if they take it as such, it will turn that one or two are sufficient, however, parallel to these, there are a lot of civil initiatives, including from the youth block, which, surely, are useful, in short, thus the problem is not deteriorated, however, it is never bad for additional opportunities for discussion, and expressing positions. This is an initiative that comes from Russia by the initiative of the Armenian youth, and it is meant to be an extra tube, to establish an opportunity. It this club useful? Definitely, yes. Will it serve the target? Time will show.”
