Nikolay Madoyan will perform the challenge in his motherland.
Guinness World Record Holders include some musicians, for example British violinist David Garret who in 2010 played the Flight of Bubble Bee by Rimski Korsakoff in 66.5 seconds (13 notes per second) and set a world record. Later he excelled his own record and played the same piece in 65 seconds. Nikolay Madoyan, Germany-based prominent violinist is seeking to set a world record. He is planning to play all the 6 concertos for violin of Paganini in one performance without using sheet music. This unique music performance will take place in National Theater of Opera and Ballet on February 20, 2014. The musician will perform with the symphonic orchestra (music director and chief conductor Karen Durgaryan). So, shortly the music world’s attention will focus on Yerevan. In 2000 Mikolay Madoyan 3 days in a row played 10 sonatas of Beethoven for piano and violin for 3 hours and 40 minutes and without sheet music. He also covered Bach’s sonatas and partitas for solo violin in a single performance, which no other musician has ever done. By the way, he was performing with Svetlana Navasardyan. Another performance by him in Yerevan included 24 caprices of Paganini, a performance that the audience still remembers. One can continue the list. The musician is also performing for charity purposes. We remember his performances in 2000-s with pianist Armine Grigoryan, the proceeds of which was used to help children with leukemia.
How it occurred to him to perform the challenge for Guinness record in his motherland? Talking to “Aravot” Nikolay Madoyan said, “First it occurred to me that I can perform all concertos of Paganini in a single performance. Then I decided to share that with the Armenian audience. Of course, this bald step of mine is supported by the symphonic orchestra, chief conductor Karen Durgaryan, opera leadership and the audience who will be there for a 5-hour performance (with one intermission)”. When asked who’s taking care for organizational efforts he pointed out the Armenia representative of Guinness Records Book Vardan Tovmasyan and his professional team (headed by political analyst Susanna Zoranyan). As to how Guinness will register the record, he mentioned that there are two options for that and the final decision will become known right before the performance. “Guinness Office will either send representatives from head office to witness the challenge as it is performed, or the Armenian representative will be delegated to witness the challenge with a committee including three independent Armenian experts”, added the musician. Speaking of his activities our interlocutor pointed out that currently is working intensely to create a series of the works of contemporary Armenian composers (Mirzoyan, Harutyunyan, Hayrapetyan, Chaushyan, Satyan, Shakaryan and others) to present Armenian music to the foreign audience to make our strong and enduring cultural heritage that has come through centuries and been polished by Komitas resonate worldwide.
