As we have already informed during the distribution of leaflets on March 1 rally, the police detained ANC activists Hayk Petrosyan, Areg, Sarkis, and Ani Gevorgyans, Sergey Gasparyan, and David Vardanyan from Mashtos avenue. Some electronic media spread rumors that the “at least two of young people dressed in civilian clothes obstructing the campaign action of ANC youth were members of the RPA youth wing.” In the conversation with Aravot.am, the President of the ANC Foreign Relations Committee, Vladimir Karapetyan, noted that “obvious provocation occurred and pursuant to the video materials, people in civilian clothes tried to prevent the campaign for the rally.”
In this regard, Aravot.am obtained explanations from Karen Avagyan, leader of the RPA youth organization. He conveyed the following: “Legal assessment will be provided by the police, where respective young people were members. I would also like to remind everyone that no one has the right to hurt anyone and distribute flyers with similar offensive content. It would be surprising if our young people would not respond similar offensive formulations, which were voiced by these youth when distributing the leaflets. And if there was a violation of the law, it’s up to the law enforcement.” Mr. Avagyan gave a political assessment to the event. “No political force has the right to distribute flyers with similar content while organizing political activities. It is very natural that our young people could not stay indifferent to these things. Even while watching the video material taken by them we see how our young people were displaying themselves. No political force has the right to exceed in political processes. We have not reacted to such displays for a long time, however, from now on any such display will be receiving its response. Today, the answer was given by members of our organization accidentally appeared in the street, tomorrow, if lessons are not learned, we would give tougher answers not to the young people who naively appeared in this situation, but the real organizers, who are hiding behind these young people.” Karen Avagyan urged to become familiar with the content of these flyers, after which it will be clear that “we should not be surprised at the behavior of young people.” Later on, the leader of the RPA YO informed, “At this point, our young people are also working in the police, and if they have violated the law, let them be accountable. The entity giving legal assessments of how our young people have violated the law is the police, and not Mr. Karapetyan, or me.”
