Euro-Maidan or Russian-Maidan

February 26,2014 15:23

Establishment of constitutional order cannot be made by the phone call from Vladimir Vladimirovich’s advisor’s assistant

A rally is planned for March 1st. It will surely be the most crowded rally of recent times. The public discontent on the socio-economic background will obtain its expression by active participation of people in the upcoming rally. The authorities should try to understand the reasons for it and analyze, unless, of course, they have such a desire in general and think about the future of the country, from time to time.

It seems that all favorable conditions are created for non-government forces of the Parliament to bring the public protest to its climax and to bring the “desired” goals to life, especially in the presence of enthusiasm and energy, which, however, is coming from the background of Ukrainian developments.

No matter how many parallels are drawn, some will find similarities and some will not – between the Ukrainian developments and possible emergence of new Maidan in Armenia. Supposed successes of new Maidan in Armenia are excluded just because the Ukrainian society had risen, first, by being an assured supporter of European integration. Now, the confrontation is open, on the one hand, against the insatiable desire of Russia to rule the former Soviet countries, which the official Moscow does not conceal with its extensive campaign machine and commentaries, on the other hand, the principle and ideological struggle of Ukrainian society the against Russian policy.

In Armenia, none of the non-government forces of the Parliament will not intensify the revolt of protest against Russian “programs” (in Georgia, for example, it is possible, as now both the ruling party and the opposition are viewing the western direction in development of the country as a priority).

Here, a question may arise. How is it associated with the Armenian reality, with the problems available in Armenia and longing for solution?…

Armenia had its Maidan after the 2008 presidential elections, however, Maidan had not recorded its ultimate goal, which is Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation with ad-hoc or sequential elections, because for both the government and the opposition, the issue of “giving the go-ahead” for the formation of Armenia’s authorities is resolved in Moscow.

ANC politicians often tackle the theme that the West ignored public demands gathered in Liberty Square in 2008. Recently, in Aravot.am, ANC MP Levon Zurabyan, referring to the developments in Ukraine, noted, “In 2008, the world turned its backs upon Armenia and democracy in Armenia. Today, we are reaping the fruits of this turning back.”

However, after March 1, 2008, could the West support the force standing on the platform, for which later it turned out that the “arrangements” with Moscow were more important than thousands of people gathered in the square?…

In other words, European Maidan cannot happen in Armenia for the simple reason that by the perception of both main and non-main forces of our political arena, the entity forming the authorities of Armenia, executor of the change of power, executor of palace and velvet coup and revolutions is Moscow.

Therefore, in social and political debates, perhaps it is worthy not to observe and discuss Euro-Maidan, rather than Russian-Maidan possibilities. But, in this case, for the sake of fairness, it should be stated that the establishment of Russian-Maidan may not have anything to do with the formation of legitimate government in Armenia, the rule of law, exercising democratic principles, bringing free economic relations to live, eliminating the system of intertwining of the oligarchy with the authorities, because current Russian authorities are not the bearer of all these things, moreover, they are in serious conflict with the real bearers of aforesaid principles.

To put it more clearly, no constitutional order can be established in Armenia by the phone call of esteemed Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin’s advisor’s assistant.
