“Recent events in the Crimea and the Crimean parliament’s decision, no matter how it ends, it may not have any impact on the Karabakh issue,” such view was made by Styopa Safaryan, Secretary General of “Heritage” party, today, in the conversation with Aravot.am.

He believes that if a referendum is held in the Crimea and the Crimea joins Russia as a subject of the Russian Federation, the increase in the number of such consolidation nowise will bring to solution of our problems. “Ultimately, let’s not forget that the Russia created the Crimea problem to exert influence on the decisions of Kiev and it is still unknown what will happen. They had the time until March 6 for the Russian troops to return to their bases, and the American aircraft carriers are entering the Black Sea. Hence, the Crimean Parliament scheduled a rally on March 16, in the event that Ukraine’s Prosecution Office, in the manner of the international court, had considered the decision of the Crimean parliament unlawful, and the parliament was released. Now, we are dealing with a mixed situation, when the military steps are increasing and political passions are heated. As to how it will end, it is hard to say, however, it definitely may not have serious and real impact on the Karabakh issue. In this case, Russia is the conflict side, to which the Crimea wants to join. To say that Russia recognizing the Crimea will also recognize Karabakh, it is naive.”
