Harutyun Khachatryan, General Director of “Golden Apricot” Yerevan International Film Festival, renowned film director, in the conversation with Aravot.am on March 12, told that the festival this year will focus extensively on Sergei Parajanov’s 90th birth anniversary. “Parajanov is a great artist, a worldwide phenomenon, but I would like also to highlight the fact that he is Armenian coming from the Armenian art, a descendent of Armenian grounds, the folk songs, and Sayat Nova. Every nation wants to privatize him, Georgians are celebrating the evening of Parajanov in Moscow, Ukrainians – the evening of the Cannes, and Armenians, unfortunately, are idling away their time,” stated Mr. Khachatryan.
Highlighting the Director of Parajanov’s house-museum Zaven Sargsyan’s efforts of always remembering the artist, he added that the main events will take place in the summer, during the “Golden Apricot”.
As said by Harutyun Khachatryan, there are 4 programs dedicated to Parajanov: all his films will be on air, the Ukrainian poetic cinema, starting from Dovzhenko up to Balayan, there are films expected about Parajanov. “We have the list of the film directors, whom Parajanov loved, studied, and made friends with: Pasolini, Tarkovsky, Naumov, and Kira Muratova. We will also organize a round table discussion about the values left by him for different nations … It should be committed to the memory of the nations once for all and be proud that Sergei Parajanov is Armenian,” said the General Director of “Golden Apricot”.
