“Ukraine is a very peaceful country. Therefore, military action is planned against Crimea”,-so responded Ivan Kukhta, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Armenia, to the question of Aravot.am of whether he see a danger of the war, especially in the event that Russia is constantly applying for provocation against Ukraine. He stressed that Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Russia and the representatives of Crimea, and detailed, “Kiev is ready to sit down at the negotiating table, to review the issue of expanding the powers of Crimea. I think it’s correct.

Diplomatic efforts so far are not still exhausted.” A number of analysts point out that Ukraine is cheated by the West since Maidan’s actions are sometimes guided by the West, but so far not sanctions did not imposed to Russia. With regard to this question, the Ukrainian Ambassador responded as follows, “If I were ruling the world, I could have answered the question.” The other concerning issue is the safety of the Armenian community in Ukraine, especially due to the fact that recently Ukrainian nationalists have been activated, which is associated with Armenia’s position on Crimea. Ivan Kukhta said about this, “Presently, Ukraine’s Armenian community consists of 350-400 thousand people. The authorities of the country are contributing to the preservation of national identity of the the community.”

Aravot.am received some comments from Ruben Mehrabyan, expert of the “Center for Political and International Studies” with regard to the statements made by Ukrainian Ambassador. We asked that although the Ukrainian Ambassador is stating that they do not pursue the goal to enter into war with Russia, nevertheless, how long the Ukrainians are able to resist the Russian provocations. The expert replied, “Ukraine has always said that it has no intention of any military resistance toward Russia, it does not have any benefit there, and this fits well within the limits of intelligence. Russia is a different case. RF has sent terrorist groups to Crimea without any insignia and organized this event there, which later was called a referendum, although it was more pressure than a referendum. There is a great fear both in NATO and the United States that Russia can try to extend these successes in quotation mark to other territories of Ukraine. It depends just on this circumstance whether the matter in Russian-Ukrainian relations will reach the military conflict, or not.”

Mr. Mehrabyan wants to believe that there will be rational people in RF who will understand “what a big danger it contains.” At the same time, the expert reminds, “Let us not forget that the Ukrainian rebel army that once was fighting against the Russian government, the last battle took place on March, 1961. In other words, they are in a war still since the times of Stalin, Stalin died, but the army was still fighting. In short, the combat traditions of the army were such that was carrying a legendary character, like the fedayeen movement among Armenians. And in that case, Putin will have to fight just against Ukrainian people”. As to how long Ukrainians will resist Russian provocations, Mr. Mehrabyan opines, “Until now Ukrainians are demonstrating enviable coolness against these provocations, they prevent where they are capable, and ignore where they are capable. This coolness does not allow the situation to become uncontrollable. I am sure that if the RF starts doing something somewhere on Ukrainian continental section beyond Crimea, the consequences may be just unpredictable.” Is Ukraine deceived by the West? Mr. Mehrabyan has the following opinion, “I do not share the formulations that Maidan was provoked by the West. Ukrainian people rebelled against the disgusting, fan of golden toilets, corrupt, total, and criminal administration. Some illusions are still preserved in the West that it is possible to come into arrangements with Putin about some issues, and the slowness is generated from the fact that no common agreement is achieved with Putin. It is transient, they will come to a common arrangement, Putin will compel them to come to a common agreement. Putin behaves the same as Hitler in 30s. Nevertheless, after so much turmoil they agreed with a single front and destroyed the evil, they will destroy the same evil for the sake of Russia. It is time for the West to call a spade a spade. For the sake of RF, as deal with the evil empire, and it is time for this evil empire to be destroyed.”
