Populism without borders

March 25,2014 14:20

There are problems for which our government should not only be criticized, moreover, in my opinion, be judged. One of which is the illegal sale of “Vorotan complex”, judging by some facts. In this session also the authorities want to pass an amendment to the law, pursuant to which, essentially, the suspicious transaction is legalized. The argument of “and what when you were selling everything at the price of water…” does not function: new willfulness cannot be justified by old willfulness.

With regard to “red lines” paid parking, the opposition is partly correct. Of course, the vehicles should not be parked anywhere, and especially parking in the center of Yerevan should cost a price. However, the owners of paid parking sites should make some investments rather than to receive money for the red paint. In particular, installing machines that would provide receipts. Otherwise, relying on SMSs, is at least unnatural. I know people of my age and older, who do not know how to send an SMS.

With regard to speedometers and cameras, the opposition, in my opinion, is wrong. For example, I am happy when I see them: another “hasty driver,” another “frivolous” or “snotty” at least will keep him restrained in this territory.

I understand that I am in the minority among my fellow citizens on this issue, however, I would say since I do not have a problem fighting for the political sympathy of taxi drivers and other disorderly drivers.

It is clear that deviation from the law is something like heroism for Armenians. And the vast majority of our drivers would like to drive ignoring the law, and when being stopped, to find a “common ground” with the traffic police. Here is the only reason for them to protest against the speedometers. Should the politicians and MPs have to satisfy these delinquent “Asian” aspirations to earn a rating? Shouldn’t we nurture our nation abide to the law, at least sometimes refraining from popular speeches? Do people fall under the load of 12 billion? Let them drive the vehicles in order, and not to fall under any load.

Interestingly, when our Deputies are saying that 70 percent of fines is going to “Sashik’s pocket,” do they have this undeniable evidence? Or they had learned about it from taxi drivers.
