“Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation was a pressure from Russia.”

April 05,2014 18:12

“There’s an invisible pressure on Serzh Sargsyan not from inside Armenia, but outside, from Russia,” such observation was made by the “Heritage” faction Secretary General Styopa Safaryan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, talking about the RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation.

To our question of whether the Prime Minister’s resignation was related to the activities of the 4 non-government forces expressing non-confidence to the government, Mr. Safaryan said, “I think Serzh Sargsyan tried to surpass these 4 forces, and it came to the point that he had to change the situation. But, interestingly, this statement was made at the time when there were some discussions held in Dubai about our country, the 2nd President (Robert Kocharyan) is returning from there, his Spokesperson here is stating that he is going to come up with some estimates, and so on and so forth. In other word, this visible public activity, and practices show that there is something shadow and hidden thing here, which I am afraid will be much more influential than the actions of these 4 forces.” Today, the RPA member Eduard Sharmazanov, answering the question of whether it is possible that the new prime minister would be a non-RPA member, said, “In any case, the appointment of the government and the prime minister is the monopoly of the President of the Republic and the majority.”

To our question of whether it is possible that Serzh Sargsyan would choose a new Prime Minister from 4 forces, especially when the latter were fighting for the resignation of the Prime Minister, Mr. Safaryan replied, “If Serzh Sargsyan is sure that he has the majority in the National Assembly today, if he is confident, then he can independently appoint, but should he wants to form a larger coalition in the National Assembly, and with political forces outside of the National Assembly, then nothing stops he to do it, in this regard the matter is disputable. At this point, Serzh Sargsyan and RPA can make a sole change.”

Mr. Safaryan also noted that some of 4 non-government forces have stated that they will also be pleased with the change only, they did not claim that they want to participate in the formation of the government. After the Prime Minister’s resignation, even if the cabinet members do not submit a resignation, as said by Mr. Safaryan, the new Prime Minister, according to the Constitution and defined terms, shall present the new government and the action plan, in any case, the government officials should submit a resignation. “I think Tigran Sargsyan’s team will leave, if not, it’s all the same, they need to submit a resignation and a new team will be presented,” said Styopa Safaryan.
