The human rights defender Artur Sakunts is surprised at why Armenians remember only the Ukrainian mercenaries’ actions against Armenians in the years of Artsakh war in 1991-1993. “Not only Ukrainian mercenaries but also Russian mercenaries were involved in Artsakh war. The residents of Getashen, Shahumyan region were forcibly displaced by Russian military. There were no Azerbaijani military units, there were no self-organized units, they were acting Soviet units that deported civilians. It would be better if any figure does not forget. The history now is presented so that only a segment of what happened is mentioned by forgetting the more important influential factors. I appreciate official Yerevan’s position about territorial integrity of Ukraine as merely a support, which, as such, is not a position, but Putin’s aggressive policy support. I doubt that people do not realize that this aggressive policy does not recognize a state and nation. Especially, when Putin announced that the Soviet Union was the same Russia, and now he is conducting a policy of defining Russia’s influence in the territory of the former Soviet Union.
He does it not with political or economic leverage, but by annexation of territories through units of armed forces, which obviously is an aggression. And this aggression will not recognize Georgian, Azerbaijani, Armenian and Ukrainian. Supporting such policy is against Armenia’s interests,” said Mr. Sakunts.
Recall that former Defense Minister Vahan Shirkhanyan, in response to interview of the leader of the “Right Sector” Dmitry Yarosh to one of the Azerbaijan sites that they would never forget Armenia’s position associated with seizure, in his interview with the “Zhoghovurd” (The People) Daily recalled, “And doesn’t Yarosh remember that Ukrainian mercenaries were fighting in the Azeri army against Armenia in the years of Artsakh war in 1991-1993?”
