What is expected to the Armenian-Turkish protocols?

April 22,2014 21:24

“As long as there has been no such official position, I think it is not right to discuss the problem in this aspect,” responded NA RPA faction secretary Hovhannes Sahakyan to the question of Aravot.am of whether it is likely that Armenia’s signature will be called back from Armenia-Turkey protocols. Recall that yesterday, the RA President’s Spokesman had said that there would be an official statement about the future of Armenian -Turkish protocols after April 24. A day before that, during the visit to the Ministry of Defense, the President Sargsyan spoke about the Armenian-Turkish protocols, he had noted that all previous skepticisms around it were groundless. Hovhannes Sahakyan, generally, thinks that initialing the Armenian-Turkish protocols was not a move made under the influence of the time, he rather considers that it was a serious and balanced move. “We also saw that the international community not only welcomed and supported, moreover, in the result of further processes, Armenia’s rating grew in the international arena. By saying concerns, President Sargsyan, I think, meant that it might result in slowing down of the Genocide recognition process or entering into negotiations with preconditions. But, we saw that there was no such a thing, also, we were the first to suspend the initialed document at the National Assembly,” said our interlocutor, adding that the Turkish side has failed the issue at the diplomatic realm, and therefore it passed to speculations and preconditions. All further possible steps associated with the Armenian-Turkish protocols, according to our interlocutor, will be the best balanced, so that we are able to add our achievements even under these conditions and this dimension. To the observation of Aravot.am that there are rearrangements in the political arena of Armenia, and to make a coalition, ARF party is bringing forward the satisfaction of its seven recommendation, one of which is calling back of Armenia’s signature from the protocols, for which the ARF party left the coalition in time, and the protocols at this moment, in fact, are not topical, whether it is likely that the ARF will be shown a respect, Hovhannes Sahakyan said that even if official Yerevan calls back its signature, it will not be a move made under the influence of the time, either.
