Whenever a position is given to any normal person, I am anxious about him. It is not necessary that these people allow indecent actions during their tenure. However, the appropriate environment, certain mental and spiritual level cannot help leaving their imprint. And even if in the course of several months or a few years, they have not learned insults special to that environment, and had not get in the habit of champing while eating, and have not improved their financial position, it is all the same, these people mainly having positive potential are perceived as one of “them”. This can be said about several current and former ministers with and without reservation, and, also because, in my opinion, they have been significantly changed during their tenure.
Imagine that I have the same anxiety when people of my circle or, presumably, those supporting my values are becoming an MP. Even a tough opposition. Because no matter how much you “pickax” the government and its representatives, after sitting next to Shmays at least 8 days in a month, you willy-nilly acquire some kind of “shmaysness”, and are infected with his world-outlook. We should also take into account that the politics, as we know, is a pragmatic sphere. Today you rebel against such characters, and tomorrow you come to the conclusion that the very Shmays or Tokhmakh Mher are the Armenian Ivanishvili, and he is the very person who will rescue the Armenian people by implementing an oligarchic-democratic revolution.
Nomenclature conveys certain “squareness” to every governmental or even opposition person by placing templates on the mental horizon and behavior, imposing a worldview that is far from real life perceptions. But, avoiding dealing with the real life, does not hinder them to repeat the traditional concerns “about this poor people”.
However, of course, getting close to governmental levers is more dangerous. In fact, as stated by a British historian, the power degenerate people, whereas the absolute power degenerates absolutely. The power that exists in Armenia is close to the absolute in the sense that it is almost uncontrollable, and governmental levers in our type of countries automatically mean also “money levers”. No one believes that people are striving for positions to “serve the country”. The solution, of course, is to increase the level of supervision, the seeds of which have been observed in the last 3-4 years.
