Today, the Administrative Court has satisfied the appeal of illegal activities of Police against civic activist Vahagn Minasyan. Recall that last summer during the protest in front of Yerevan City Hall, when talking with a loudspeaker, Vahagn Minasyan was detained by the police on the grounds of failing to fulfill the legal demand of the police. The police had also filed a lawsuit on administrative liability of 50000 drams against him by Article 182 of the Administrative Code. At the judicial process, human rights defender of the activist, Artak Zeinalyan, reads a counterclaim demanding to recognize the police actions illegitimate. “This time, the court acting in accordance with the law dismissed the lawsuit against me and satisfied our counter lawsuit against the police. The Court recognized the fact of abuses of my rights by the police,” told the activist to Aravot.am. According to him, the court has also satisfied their claim on financial compensation and has obligated the police to compensate 200000 drams for the attorney services. Vahagn Minasyan said that the court was examining more than a dozen lawsuits submitted by the police against him and he is going to submit a counterclaim for all of these cases by demanding a compensation for moral damages. “A fairly large amount of money will be requested from the police. Unless they feel it on their skin, they will not come to their senses.”
