“I do not want my statement perceived wrong like the previous one,” such opinion was expressed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia Rainer Morel in the conversation with Aravot.am and “1in news” media. Recall that the German Ambassador to Armenia had stated that Armenia can still sign the political component of the EU Association Agreement. This statement arose a lot of discussions, it was even responded by the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Traian Hristea, noting that Armenia cannot sign the political component of the EU Association Agreement because it cannot be separated from the overall package.
Today, the President of France Francois Hollande at his official visit to Armenia said that a reasonable model can be found for Armenia to associate with the European Union, emphasizing that it is possible to cooperate with the European Union without quitting the Customs Union. German Ambassador agreed with this observation made by the President Hollande. As for his statement, he said that it was a misunderstanding and urged to “forget”. Then, with regard to continuing the relationship with Armenia, he said, “Indeed, there is an opportunity to continue the relationships with Armenia. The problem will be how we will call it. Of course, we cannot leave the title of the document the same. The milestone provision will be the fact that we want to work with Armenia, and although nothing is signed in Vilnius, but Armenia is still a member of the Eastern Partnership.” Later, commenting on his earlier statement, the ambassador said, “I want to say that Armenia in terms of political is free to say and do anything, or to sign something with Europe. I want this time my statements perceived correctly.” The Ambassador stressed that no matter what document is developed, what model of cooperation will be adopted in the Armenia-EU field, the ideology will be the same.
