“To what extent it was appropriate for the Ambassador to make such a statement, that’s another matter,” so responded the editor-in-chief of   the journal Russia in Global Affairs, Chairman of Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Fyodor Lukyanov, to the question of Aravot.am whether he agrees with the statement of the Russian ambassador to Armenia. Recall that in the interview with Moscow-based Russian-Armenian newspaper “Noev Kovcheg”, the ambassador had said that we should be dealing with neutralizing the NGOs operating in Armenia that are striving to drive a wedge between the Russian-Armenian relations, by bringing the example of Russia’s newly adopted law that regulates the NGO activities. Lukyanov stressed that basically the ambassador is correct in the sense of the content, and detailed, “Indeed, the geopolitical reality is already been strained and tightened. Russia has announced its positions about their partner countries and their involvement in other unions. As we can see from the example of Ukraine, it will have a serious reaction.” Mr. Lukyanov, without hiding the fact of Russia’s superstate, notes, “What to do. The reality is that some countries cannot make a choice and must act in accordance with the situation, taking into account the restrictions. And if you want to adopt a final decision, it happens what happened with Ukraine.”
