To the condition put forward by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in Astana, that Armenia will join the Eurasian Union until July 1 with the UN-recognized borders, i.e., without Nagorno-Karabakh, the President of Armenian, Serzh Sargsyan, answered not immediately on spot, in Astana, but a few days later in Tsaghkadzor, mentioning, “What Nazarbayev said was unpleasant, but it could not cause us any harm.” The leaser of Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA), Aram Sargsyan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, mentioned that he is offended, because, in fact, Serzh Sargsyan has not given an answer to Nazarbayev, whereas Nazarbayev hit the dignity if the country.
In this respect, Aram Sargsyan said, “It’s not always the dignity in human relations should be protected. The state dignity is not less important to be protected. There should be an answer to Nazarbayev’s speech, which did not happen, hence, I am offended.” To our specification of whether there was nobody to defend the honor of the country, Mr. Sargsyan responded, “At this time, there was nobody to defend the honor of the state, but should they find possible answers and at least give a late answer, then let it be so.” Many analysts view Nazarbayev’s statements in the context of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. There are also views that thus Karabakh is sacrificed step-by-step. Aram Sargsyan does not share this opinion, he is confident that Armenia will keep maintaining Karabakh as it did before.” However, according to Aram Sargsyan, in addition to military, it is also important to act in the field of information. In this regard, Mr. Sargsyan said, “The problem is not that the Karabakh issue may all of a sudden be resolved in this integration Union. But if we are presenting our position there and showing the world why we are raising this question, it can be a major benefit to us.” To our question of whether what happened in Astana and Armenia’s stance caused harm to the settlement of Karabakh conflict, Mr. Sargsyan responded, “It was harm to the extent that it is related to your posture, position, and dignity in the information field.” To our observation of whether it does not become a pattern that the representatives of RA political leadership are stating one thing, but it diametrically turns to be the opposite. For example, Galust Sahakyan had stated, “We will enter into the Customs Union with Karabakh,” the same was stated by Gagik Minasyan, but it turned to be completely the opposite. We asked the leader of Democratic Party of Armenia whether this was also a result of pressure. He replied, “I, as a party leader and an opposition, can say that we should not be joining to this-or-that union without Karabakh. However, the task of the leader of the state is to settle this issue without extra noise. This should be done through diplomatic channels. It has not been done, it goes without saying that he had failed in some matter and had lose.” To our observation of maybe Serzh Sargsyan was constrained, Aram Sargsyan responded, “Let’s leave it, I do not know what he was constrained of.”
