Will we have the statue of a “scoundrel” in Yerevan?

June 05,2014 15:13

To avoid accusing me in defaming Anastas Mikoyan, let me say that I have just transcribed Mikoyan’s self-esteem. Everyone knows Mikoyan’s famous phrase, “all of us had been scoundrels” («всемыбылимерзавцами»), while rascality has no period of limitation. Scoundrels are not born, indeed, but when they become scoundrel, and it becomes almost impossible for a man to be transformed. If there are such cases in the history, they are exceptions that prove the law. The chance to avoid becoming a scoundrel or being a scoundrel is given to everyone by birth and in the time of Mikoyan hundreds of thousands of people preferred not to become or be a scoundrel. Yes, these people became the victim of those scoundrels. Also Mikoyan’s victim. They were destroyed by families, destroyed by the whole nation, the family, but preferred not to become a scoundrel. Wasn’t the chance to avoid becoming a scoundrel given to them? Indeed, it was given. Mikoyan himself preferred rascality. Reasons? Paronyan would say there are no “circumstances of mitigating cases”. Imagine how great the conscious of committed rascality was that Mikoyan’s “from Lenin to Lenin without heart attack and stroke” («отИльичадоИльичабезинфарктаипаралича»), and that’s just what they say about him, without heart attacks and strokes, indeed, still lived more than forty years as a symbol of rascality after 1937. I’m not sure that we would not have Mikoyan’s gravestone in Yerevan. Now we are not living in salient years of idolatry than those years of atheism of Mikoyan’s times.

They perhaps were more restrained in their idolatry. Idolatry in their times was reserved to the “chosen ones”. Look at the worship of our pro- and impersonal partisan leaders by their “members”, look at their sad photos on the walls, which are showed every day in demonstration (they are even on the walls of the journalists’ offices servicing for them), look at nowadays race for distribution of various medals, look at their proclamations, look at nowadays foolish and absurd events, in which, according to the organizers, “the former and current fathers of the country” are praised, look at how decent all of them are, how virtuous, how child-loving, how family-adoring, how cultural and spiritual, how free from human weaknesses. And maybe this is the way to go to the times of rascality and maybe this is the reason that we want to immortalize one of outstanding figures of the times of rascality. Certainly, it is not surprising that in the interview to “Orer” newspaper, Mikoyan’s son declares, “What are the standards in Armenia for placing the statues to individuals? If by specific deeds for Armenia, then what are the basics for placing Marshal Baghramyan’s and the American writer William Saroyan’s statues in Yerevan? What have Baghramyan and Saroyan done for Armenia?” It is not surprising that Saroyan is an American writer for Mikoyan’s son. It is obvious that in his scoundrel years, Mikoyan had told his son from America only about sausage and condensed milk. Telling about Saroyan would not let him get the last Ilyich. With his interview, Mikoyan’s son once again proved that he grew up by the ideology of rascality, that the very rascality was the core, on which their lives have been built. States have principles, value systems, taboos, and unwritten laws. Do you think there are no people in Germany who would like to see Hitler’s statue in one of the parks in the center of Berlin? I am sure there are, but there is also…a state in Germany. All those who keep the vivid memory of Anastas Ivanovich in their hearts can visit his grave, put flowers, and burn incense. This is a matter of personal decision, but placing “scoundrel’s” statue in the center of Yerevan by self-esteem, encouraging rascality in demonstration to generations and in the eyes of generations is already not a matter of personal decision. It has been several years since genius sculptor, the renowned Armenian Arto Chakmakchyan dreams about seeing his magnificent sculpture in the center of Yerevan, he donates his sculpture to Armenia, but we meanly do not want to place it. Khoren Ter-Harutyunyan; how many talented sculptures could decorate Yerevan and Armenia, but we ignore them treacherously. I can list endless names. Why don’t we do it, because they were not scoundrels? Ultimately, the history and the time have showed that placing statues to the individuals, even not villains, does not save these individuals because the times are changing in the course of the history and the statues to the individuals are dethroned from pedestals.
