At the discussion on “Challenges to Armenia’s existence within the Eurasian Union” held yesterday, the attendees, members of civil society, were constantly emphasizing an idea that there is no need to anymore cherish a hope with government and “non-government” political parties, and society should itself be able to find strength and come out of the situation, in which we have appeared since May 29 when our national dignity is constantly belittled, when we obviously are moving towards weakening of the statehood. To the question of “Aravot” whether he shares the views, political scientist Ruben Mehrabyan responded, “They have said quite right, and it must not only be done but also done as an intense, fast pace, because at the moment it’s the situation when the time is working in detriment of us.” To our next question of how he views such social consolidation, who should organize and what methods should be used to make the public and the people be audible and guide, political scientist responded, “Constitutionally, it is allowed, more precisely, by the Constitution and the laws, all possible means not banned by legislation, by all the known technologies … I do not think that there are no citizens in Armenia, moreover, I’ll say that there are tens of thousands of intelligent citizens in Armenia, who are just waiting for this kind of crystallization, some organizational steps, which will result in a new movement, truly serving the interests of the citizens and Armenia.” We noticed that according to “Transparency International” organization’s data, the citizens of Armenia are in apathy and indifferent. Whether it will not create difficulties to people in any matter, at least, in the event of risks to the statehood, to stand on foot, Ruben Mehrabyan answered, “I think that there is such a thing, because, yes, there is not confidence with the society in the political arena, both governmental and non-governmental forces, because they have nothing to do with the interests of the same citizens, and what is going on in this political arenas, citizens are just not interested. However, I am sure that this situation is capable of changing very rapidly, when people would see that a real process is going on, which is called for serving the interest of the citizens, and I do not doubt that Armenia is doomed to such a step.”
