The topic of “Face to Face” series of talk show of Aravot online is discussed by the leader of “New Times” party, Aram Karapetyan, and NA MP Karen Avagyan (RPA).
Aram Abrahamyan – To understand what Union we are acceding or planning to accede, we need to understand what Nazarbayev has said and why.
Aram Karapetyan – In fact, Nazarbayev did not say anything, Nazarbayev has read Aliyev’s letter, which was addressed to three presidents. Politically, it is clear what Aliyev wants, but legally, what Nazarbayev read is about a non-existent thing. What it means that Armenia is planning to accede to somewhere with Karabakh, Karabakh so far has not been legally admitted anywhere, similar problem has never been raised, Armenia has its recognized borders, Karabakh is not declared an inseparable part of Armenia, it is not covered by the Constitution. In other words, legally, there is no problem. Nazarbayev implemented a political order, it is not Aliyev’s problem.
A. A. – Which is Nazarbayev’s motivation: the Turan solidarity, playing up to Aliyev, or it is Putin’s game?

Karen Avagyan – In fact, the letter was zilch. I agree that letter may not have any importance, technically and contextually. There were just 2-3 technical problems, and even the president of Armenia touched upon these issues with regard to accession to the Union, which is not associated with the voiced letter and with anything that we had given so much importance and are discussing. In fact, it received a greater feedback in our domestic audience than around the table where it was voiced. I guess we are used to finding problems, exaggerating them, and try finding solutions, culprits, and then seeking for protection.
A. A. – What was the order? Who has ordered?
A. K. – I think now Nazarbayev is implementing one of the orders by some segment of the West. Why? You said, Turan. It is not a coincidence that a gathering of Turkish language speaking state was held in Turkey, which was kindly attended by Aliyev, Nazarbayev, Davutoğlu, Erdoğan, Gül, and others. There is an All-Turan problem, it is the third front that is opened by the West, it is the All-Turan front, which will reach until China. It is not a positive phenomenon for us, it is the third front not only against Russia, but also the Sino-Russian alliance, the first front was open before that and was extended to the Baltic States and Kaliningrad, the second front is Ukraine, which is opened now and plus the Romanian-Moldovan problem, the third front, unfortunately, a very painful fact for us, was the Turan problem, which was lasting for a long time, it was invisible, latent, now it opened up larger, and plus Nazarbayev’s and Aliyev’s relationships, plus all that we have already talked for the domestic audience, however, the main and great topic is the third front.
K. A. – In any case, the possible accession of Armenia to the Eurasian Union has actually affected Azerbaijan, in other words, we have touched the “nerve” of Azerbaijan, and it can definitely be considered an achievement. No matter we say that the Karabakh conflict is not resolved within the Eurasian Union, in any case, the Eurasian Union will contribute to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict, it would be voiced at the highest levels. Its vivid example is the reaction of Azerbaijan as such, which has actually used all possible methods, up to the letter and reading of the letter, and this is a success in Armenia’s diplomacy. In other words, when Azerbaijan begins making responsive actions on the diplomatic platforms, when it realizes on all the other platforms that it has lost, also it is proved by the tense situation on the border. In other words, it is clearly seen by the diplomacy that Azerbaijan has become weak and is losing, the Armenian positions are more understandable for today’s international community, therefore, they are seeking different ways to possibly bring to the status quo.
