Khachatur Kokobelyan. “Kiselyov’s statement is the result of inconsistent attitude by RA authorities.”

“This is not the first time that Russian officials or the first faces of Russian propaganda machine are coming up not not only with similar statements, but allegations”, stated the leader of “Free Democrats” party, Khachatur Kokobelyan, with annoyance, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the statement voiced at the National Assembly by Dmitry Kiselyov, General Director of “Rossiya Segodnya” Information Agency, in particular about declaration of Russian as the second official language in Armenia. According to Mr. Kokobelyan, the authorities of Armenia, also other political forces, do not give an adequate response, and the situation created is the result of inadequate and inconsistent attitude. Khachatur Kokobelyan also added, “I do not blame the demanding approach by the Russian side with regard to the priority of their language, moreover, with regard to equalization, rather than inadequate approaches by our public officials. Obviously, today’s, and not only today’s, authorities depend on Russian authorities because of incorrect policy conducted by them.” We inquired whether the “Free Democrats” party would respond, Mr. Kokobelyan replied, “Free Democrats and I have been repeatedly expressed pertaining to Russian ambassador’s statements and have voiced our estimations.” Mr. Kokobelyan mentioned that he might come up with legislative initiative on making amendments to the law on the language. Then, he added, “Under this initiative, some responsibilities will be defined in case of violation of the law. If a public official acts in violation of the law, then he must bear the responsibility for it up to dismissal from work. If they do not have this responsibility arbitrary, then they will have to have it by the law.”
