Europe and we. “Reformer” Andropov and “influence agents”

June 30,2014 13:29

The “KGB” is based on exploitation of fears

What did I know about Yuri Andropov in early 1980s? They he was the head of the “KGB” for many years, the institution that was chasing Rafael Papayan and Edmon Avetyan. The after Brezhnev’s death, he had become the leader of the country and was fighting for the “discipline”. In the daytime, young people with determined look were organizing “inspection” in the shops, markets and theaters, and were detecting the people that were visiting these places during the work time.

It should be noted that the events focused on “strengthening of discipline” were held in a very formal way, perhaps, the leadership of the republic understood that no law and order would be established in such a way. I also remember that during the Andropov ruling, green-tagged cheap vodka appeared in the stores, which cost not 3 rubles 62 kopecks, but, if I’m not mistaken, 2 rubles 80 kopecks.

And, all of a sudden, nearly 30 years later, “it appears” that Andropov is one of the brightest characters in our history, one might say, an icon, whom we, the former Soviet people, should worship. Three Russian federal TV channels showed “documentary” films, which were called on to prove it. One can conclude from these movies that the former head of the Soviet “KGB” was a great democrat, a liberal-minded man, a reformer, highly intellectual and lyrical poet. Along with the great Stalin and not so bad Beria, this wonderful Andropov forms the trinity, which underlies for the activities of the current President of the Russian Federation. The latter combines all these virtues.

It is clear that Vladimir Putin commenced his service in his own institution under Andropov’s tenure, and it was then that he received his first lessons of relentless struggle against the enemies of the country. And indeed, he had put many ideas of the “KGB’s” “reformer” boss into wide circulation, which are applied in today’s Russia, and in this sense, the “Soviet renaissance,” which our friendly country lives, and which is imposed on us, is quite legitimate.

In 1972, the Soviet “KGB” leader, Yuri Andropov, had sent a confidential report to Political Bureau, in which he claiming to fight against the spies, not only in the literal sense of the word, but also the so-called “influence agents”. This term was first used widely, which, basically, enabled accusing any person of treason who communicates with foreigners or has liberal ideas.

As to what an “influence agent” means, there is an extensive literature about it. Here’s what one of the researchers of contemporary Russia writes, “Influence agent is not a specific person, but a public institution. In association with the situation, the collapse (destruction) of the Soviet Union, the international competitions, festivals, mass media, travel tours, international awards, foundations, and political parties and so on were and are influence agents.”

Since the Soviet Union no longer exists, but the “influence agents” still exist, then we have to assume that these “agents” are now also called on to destroy Russia. This is where the law recently passed by the State Duma incurs, according to which foreign grants receiving NGOs are obligated to call themselves “foreign agents.” The Russian Ambassador Peter Volinkin recommends applying this very practice in Armenia.

It is a whole philosophy, which is based on paranoid fears. The “KGB” (in the broad sense of the word, not as a special service but as a system) is based on exploitation of these fears. The system would not be so viable if it were based only on violence. The mystic fear for possible aggression against “hostile” environment keeps people into obedience. The more “hostile” is the environment, more terrifying are its “influence agents”, the more there is a need for a “power structure”, which will protect you from these “enemies”. Well, Armenia, which in our understanding, is surrounded by the “Turks”, is extremely a fertile ground for exploitation of those fears.
