The fight between swindlers and speakers

July 03,2014 13:34

Sometimes you can hear from the politicians and commentators, we are in favor of competition of ideological struggle and the projects. In principle, this is true, but it is still not applicable for Armenia. Competition of ideas can occur only in the event of fair elections. Because this competition is not an end in itself. As a result, the voters, the citizens must decide on which idea is close to them and give a 4 or 5 years of mandate to this particular power or the person, so that the latters would implement these ideas.

However, the situation in Armenia is different for 20 years. The citizens are divided into two groups, those who vote in the favor of the government by money, intimidation or any other coercion means, and those who vote against the government by no money and coercion means, regardless of who the opposition is at given moment. In fact, the second group by no means believe that their “cons” will not become “pros” by this-or-that means of fraud.

Respectively, the political arena is consisted of those who are engaged in frauds, and of those who say bad things about the authorities. The first ones are accepted to be called “authorities”, and the second ones – an “opposition”, although classically and politically, the definition of neither one is true.

The point that our situation is far from being “classical” is proved by the following fact. Those who came to power by fraudulent means, and then for this-or-that reason have been dismissed and have become an opposition, demand fair elections, and voice accusations for the swindlers. Thus, the debate between “quasi” government and “quasi” opposition turns into a pointless war of words between the “former” and the “current”.

A specific example from this week’s news. The Public Services Regulatory Commission was to adopt a decision on electricity tariff rise. The five political parties are against it. These parties say that they have thousands of members. How many protesters of these thousands were at the building of the Commission on July 1? If they were a total of at least 1000 people, the “independent” Commission could have thought a little.

Anyway, all are good maters of “chattering”. After every blasphemous word, the opposition figures state, the regime is in panic. Allegedly, the swearing was so effectual that the authorities were scared. Actually, I assume that it is not so true. The authorities are terrified of only Hmayak Hovhannisyan.
