Political evolution

July 18,2014 13:36

In 1970s, in the neighborhood where I was living, in Leningradyan and Halabyan streets corner, a middle-aged woman was selling kvass. One day, the woman (I do not know why in Russian) decided to announce that there is no kvass in the barrel, and posted an announcement, saying, «квас нет» (there is no kvass – translator’s note). I, a student of 4th or 5th grade at school, prompted her that the Russian grammatical rules require “kvassi”, letter “a” at the end. Despite my too young age, the woman listened to me. The next day, there was kvass in the barrel, and the seller was in a hurry to please the customers, «кваса есть» (there is kvass – translator’s note).

Like in grammatical rules, in politics also, in case of absence and presence, different “declensions” are applied. Particularly, during sympathies and antipathies by some opposition parties. In one case, being in government coalition is not discrediting, is not a stigma for the whole life, on the contrary, it is an evidence of hopeless but heroic attempts to save the country. In another case, being a member of the same government coalition unambiguously proves of being “unprincipled” and “corrupt”.

In one case, the “real politics” principle is applied, “we will unite even with the devil just to reach our goal,” “there are no eternal enemies, nor eternal friends.” In another case, “high moral standards” are applied, and the enemies entirely become “eternal”. Earlier, the second president was the embodiment of the sins of all humanity, now, it turns out that “during his tenure, the country was developing” (if by saying the “country” we mean the criminal oligarchic system, then it is absolutely true).

… Today, the Rule of Law Party is organizing a rally. The theme seems to be urgent, the price rise in electricity. By Public Services Regulatory Commission’s permission, the owner of electricity network, “Inter RAO” Russian organization, performs extremely bad management, is heavily in debt, and delivers very poor quality services at very high prices for Armenia. It is known that in such cases, unsatisfactory work is combined with unsubstantiated expenses and corruption.

In short, there is a place for public protest. Since August 1, we will pay 10 percent more expensive for electricity. It would be a pretty heavy burden on the pocket of our fellow citizens. I believe that majority of the political forces agree with it. But since the rally is organized by the RoL Party, to put it mildly, they do not display any enthusiasm, and are not guided by “political pragmatism”.

Maybe, there are truly some mines there. Now, come and figure out these “political evolutions.”
