Political scientist, Eduard Antinyan, does not consider the cause for protraction of accession to the Eurasian Economic Union by Armenia’s and the Union member states’ economic discrepancies serious. “A clear precondition is laid upon Armenia: you will enter without Karabakh. Obviously, if you join the Union, you cannot avoid having a border problem. We are in organic connection with Karabakh, if Armenia joined the European Union, the Armenia-Karabakh organic connection would be impossible tomorrow. Joining the Union will bring not only a Customs checkpoint, but also a direct border between Armenia and Karabakh. If nowadays, the authorities are trying to present that such a problem does not exist, shortly after everyone will see that such a problem exists. It is excluded to preserve the current situation with Karabakh by entering into the structure of the European Union,” said the political scientist to Aravot.am. He is convinced that refusal to joining the Eurasian Union to preserve Karabakh would make the authorities of Armenia appear in a worse situation. “If our government admits that Karabakh is not Armenia and would not maintain the current regime with Armenia, then a question arises about what our government that has been elected a president of Armenia as a result of Karabakh movement is doing in Armenia. He should not only be a president, moreover, generally, he has nothing to do in Armenia. In other words, after 20 years of ceasefire, we concluded that Armenia is not Karabakh, neither legally, nor in our conceptions. In other cases, if you recognize Karabakh as an independent state, then be so kind to recognize its independence.”
