“International investigation is such a thing, which you cannot express against, and it’s very difficult to prevent. I think the shooters and other guilty ones have been reconciled with its inevitability, and along with other, demand objective investigation. Instead, they would try to make their own interpretation about the results of the investigation. In all cases, the intent is highly unlikely. And the Soviet type criminal untidiness in this conflict is widespread and bilateral,” said political scientist Armen Aghayan, in the conversation with Aravot.am, referring to the development on the Malaysia plane crash in Ukraine. Our interlocutor is convinced that the destruction of the civil aircraft, of course, will have some impact on the outcome of the Ukrainian confrontation, but not decisive. “Without this incident, the direct and indirect parties of the conflict would do what they are doing now and are preparing to do in the future. In particular, Ukraine’s anti-Russian political elite would try to eradicate all kinds of pro-Russian elements in the country, eventually and at any cost. In its third decade of independence, Ukraine, with its diversification of national identity, predominantly Russian-speaking, finally can form more or less unified nation. I am sure that for the sake of it, Poroshenko is ready to extend the war until the pro-Russian population is broken up or leaves the country. In case of successful developments for Kiev and sufficient external support, Donbass will immediately be followed by Crimea. Otherwise, if there are too many losses or the international support is not enough, the conflict can be temporarily frozen but not resolved.” As conveyed by “Voice of America” radio station, the U.S. congressmen are of the opinion that Russia should pay the price for the events in Ukraine, but that price can only be exacted with Europe’s full and vigorous cooperation. “I suggest we do whatever is necessary to bring Russia’s economy to its knees. We need to see the Russian stock market plummet. We need to see confidence and support for anything Russia makes or exports denied,” stated Sen. Dan Coats. “But for further sanctions to be more effective, the U.S. and its European allies must present a unified front,” added the Democratic Senator Chris Murphy. “The international support will be ensured by the United States. Europe, in advance, although was criticizing Moscow’s pressure on Kiev’s European aspirations, however, it was going to act against Russia rather moderate, particularly, with regard to sanctions. Putin himself did everything to scare off again the Europe with Russian bear and fully join the American fight against Russian revanchism. Russia encounters isolation and similar crises, like the Soviet Union in the last years of its existence,” said Armen Aghayan, adding, “This was definitely not the result, which Putin expected, attaching the Crimea and arming Donbas. Even if he manages to keep the Crimea and Donbas continues the resistance, it’s all the same, Putin loses the rest of Ukraine, and the imperial prospect along with it. And without the imperialistic dream, Russia’s meaning is lost.”
