Today, Aravot.am asked the former Foreign Affairs Minister of NKR, Arman Melikyan, how the response by the RA Foreign Affairs Ministry with regard to the situation available in Karabakh-Azerbaijani Contact line and Armenian-Azerbaijani border is estimated, whether it is equivalent to incident, and whether it was not necessary to make a tougher response, Arman Melikyan replied, “In the current situation, the place of a tougher response is the frontline. The task of the foreign ministry was to prevent the exacerbation of political preconditions feeding the emergence of tension. The political and their derivative diplomatic mistakes and gaps accumulated over decades can lead to such periodic outbursts of opponent’s military activeness.”
To our question that there is an opinion that the Foreign Ministry’s reaction to the shooting was quite late, how substantiated it is from diplomatic point of view. Arman Melikyan replied, “It is not essential. The general political approach by the Armenian side should undergo certain changes. Only then the responses of our foreign political ministry would become targeted, they will cease to be a mere propaganda.”
