According to Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan, by divulging this kind of information, Azerbaijan wants to show that it has no problems in diplomatic arena
By the end of the meeting of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani haqqin.az website disseminated information, which reads that by the end of the next few days, Russia will supply military equipment to Azerbaijan. In this regard, Aravot.am talked with political scientist, Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan.
According to him, at this stage, the Azerbaijani side is trying to show that it does not have a political problem at least at the level of information, and thus, will actual try making attempts of maintaining its own reputation. “But, actually, we understand that the situation has been changed on the border, and the situation has been changed since the end of July, as a result, Armenian side is imposing peace to Azerbaijan through military force.” He believes that despite the financial contributions, which were made in the Azerbaijani army, the situation continues to be controlled by the Armenian side.
According to him, this true story puts Aliyev in a difficult position during the negotiations. “It is clear that Aliyev, conceding in the negotiations is trying to save his face in the information field, perhaps to disseminate similar information parallel to the meeting, an old information, because we all know that these supplies that Russia had commenced are not new, it is an ongoing process, which lasts not 1 or 2 days, and can be extended by the time. In fact, by divulging such information, they want to show that Azerbaijan currently has no problems in diplomatic field, which does not meet the reality.”

Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan noted that the information about the second supply of equipment is 1.5-2 months old, and the third batch will come. “I think that the supply is no way associated with geopolitical situation created in the region at this stage. The agreements are signed, and according to schedule, Azerbaijan and Russia are working, of course, this is not so inspiring reality for Armenia, but I also believe that the supply has no connection to today’s Aliyev and Putin meeting.”
