RPA MP. “Aliyev promises Putin and then we hear shootings at night, then, why doesn’t Lavrov tell about it?”

After tripartite meeting of presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Serzh Sargsyan, in his interview to “ArmNews”, said, “prevention of incidents is an integral part of the negotiation process. But a separate agreement, as such, was not made based on the fact that it is automatically assumed.”

Regarding the meeting, in the conversation with Aravot.am, RPA MP Sukias Avetisyan said, “There was already a cease-fire agreement, therefore signing a new agreement once again was useless. But it was clear to everyone that such a format of a meeting and organizing such a meeting in haste was due to the fact that the border tension has been accelerated. If Aliyev is a normal person, then he was to understand and take immediate measures after the meeting to maintain the ceasefire regime. There is a clearly task to maintain the ceasefire regime and pull back the snipers. If he was not going to solve these 2 tasks, then it turned out that it makes no sense to meet with this person or commence negotiations. This was the first task to pull the snipers back, which did not happen. After the meeting, unfortunately, the fires continued. True, with not the same intensity, but we see that the fires are still on. Any fire may take another human life. Therefore, I think that as soon as a few Azerbaijani were killed, the international organizations quickly began circulating statements, and after these statements, they should pass to specific actions. Any such violation that the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will go, where they should go from, to investigate and announce the names of specific perpetrators. Rather than constantly say in the air that they are concerned. Who cares about this concern, all of us are concerned.”

To our question whether we can say now that the Sochi meeting did not give us anything, the Republican MP said, “Honestly, if the ceasefire regime is not maintained, I think that this meeting is worth nothing.” Although Serzh Sargsyan had said that no agreement has been reached at the meeting, but Sergey Lavrov, presenting the outcomes of the trilateral meeting in Sochi, had said that an agreement has been reached to sign an agreement to conduct investigation of the incidents. Doesn’t this contradict Serzh Sargsyan’s words, the Republican MP replied, “Lavrov did not say that an agreement has been reached as such a document is not signed. In other words, Lavrov said that it is true that such cases should be identified. But I say it again that they do not go beyond the words. Yes, let Russia as a Minsk Group co-chair take on any such incident in his hands and pass to specific actions after the statements. No specific document is signed about it. In other words, we have earlier signed agreements. I have listened to Lavrov’s statement. But where is the agreement when the presidents are verbally speaking, and then, the next day or the night they hear shootings? It was also agreed upon, then why doesn’t Lavrov say about it.”

To our question that many say that with the help of this meeting, Putin will try to show its influence in the region, now, when Aliyev is saying one thing to him and does another thing, so whether Russia actually has no effect on Azerbaijan, Sukias Avetisyan responded, “One way or the other, we all understand that the relationships with Europe and the United States have gone beyond the war, and it is natural that Putin needs to strengthen its position in the region. At the meeting with Putin, Aliyev said that he is in favor of, but being in favor of, he was supposed to take actions, too, or else, what their words mean. If at the meeting, Aliyev should sit and say that he is in favor of and then continue hostilities again, this is the cost of the president’s words. Let the international community see it.”
