“First, I would like to see the substantiations of the criminal case, based on which such a hypothesis is brought up. Frankly speaking, I think it less likely”, such opinion was expressed by the Chairman of Armenia’s Helsinki Committee, Avetik Ishkhanyan, to the question of Aravot.am of whether he thinks that the hypothesis that Karen Petrosyan was kidnapped from the territory of Armenia, which was brought up based on information obtained within the criminal case filed at the Investigative Committee of Armenia by the fact of the murder of Karen Petrosyan, a resident of Tavush Marz bordering village of Chinari, also captive in Azerbaijan, is likely.
According to him, after the kidnapping, a very nice performance was supposed to be shown by Azerbaijan of how Karen is going to the village, he is taken to the hospitality with beer, cigarettes, then they take off his civil clothes and dress him military clothes. Mr. Ishkhanyan thinks it is likely that this boy was lost if there were no other motives in the Azerbaijani territory, and it had a tragic end. He added, “This is a great tragedy, and this issue should be raised in all international instances. It should be play a belated, but also sobering role for us, because in the same may, Azerbaijani subversives might appear in Armenia. This is a very disturbing fact with regard to the security of our borders.”
Note that the following is issued by the Investigative Committee of Armenia as a fact substantiating the hypothesis of kidnapping, “Petrosyan had gone after the firewood with a donkey, the donkey was found in our territory, from where the tracks are lost, and one gets the impression that he was kidnapped from our, Armenian territory.” In this regard, Mr. Ishkhanyan noted, “In any case, I am not convinced by it. Karen Petrosyan could have get lost by some reason, and his donkey come back by that way. This hypothesis seems less likely to me. If it were not for the village scene, I might have believed in this hypothesis and have considered this very hypothesis more reliable.”
To our question of how credible are the videos showing the village scenes, Avetik Ishkhanyan responded, “How does the Azerbaijani side present that a person dressed in civilian clothes suddenly appears in military uniform? Did they change the scenario in the meantime? Should Karen had appeared in the village dressed in civilian clothes, and we had seen how he was taken to interrogation and be tortured, I would have considered this hypothesis likely. So, did they change their strategy in the meantime? Were they so naïve? This is the question.”
