ADLA Chairman, Hakob Avetikyan, considers Edward Nalbandyan’s participation in the inauguration ceremony of the President of Turkey a correct decision. “RA President’s standpoint is correct that instead of him, he is sending his foreign minister, because there is not so much warmth and any warmth at all between Armenia and Turkey. Consequently, it would be wrong to be presenting at the highest level, he would leave the impression of getting barefoot without seeing the water,” said Mr. Avetikyan. According to him, it would be wrong not to send any representative from Armenia. “Sending a representative is correct, and this representative was to be the foreign minister.”
In response to our question of whether the participation of Armenia’s representative in the inauguration ceremony would oblige the President of Turkey to accept the invitation of visiting Armenia on the 100th anniversary of Genocide, Mr. Avetikyan said, “There is still time until April 24th, and we still do not know what kind of water will flow. I think it is too early to say that our foreign minister can be informed about the Turkish President’s visit to Armenia, he would hardly get any clear answer. Very likely, he would hear the expression of a desire; they would say that if possible they would come. But I think that the Turkish government, especially Erdoğan’s new government, would hardly have discussed the issue and an appropriate decision is made.”
